no extra credit, huh?

Okay, so the professor who does not believe in extra credit (it's not really extra if it's work that was supposed to be done and then was changed at the LAST MINUTE) DOES believe in giving a free point to EVERYONE, even to those who got the question right on the midterm in the first place!!!! Sounds like those students are getting an EXTRA point to me, professor. Not only that but the assignment that was originally due on the 20th and was delayed to the 23rd (that's cool, the system was down) was again delayed to FRIDAY because he asked if people weren't done yet and some were not. How can he not see this as a form of extra credit, he just extended the extension by a week!!!!????? It's the inconsistency that drives me mad.

another entry

Okay, we are apparently allowed to post several entries in one day to count towards our three posts a week. Speaking of which, I can't believe we have "busy work" in a graduate program. I could understand once a week, but three times? What's the point?

I'm really annoyed with this info tech class. It has been so disorganized, I can't stand it. I'm pretty worked up about not getting credit for my scout portal items.....I find it very disrespectful of my time. I put in 6 hours for those extra 25 items, I deserve something.

getting ready

I've been trying to get caught up with my work, not even caught up, but ahead so that when I start my two new classes next week, I'm not totally overwhelmed. It doesn't seem to be working though! Hopefully I'll get some time this weekend. Bud and Wes (and hopefully Scooter) are going to the cabin but I'll have Ella so I don't expect much time for school work.

the lake

I took the kids and Scooter to the lake today. They have so much fun there riding their bikes and exploring the woods. We found a bird in the barn and got him to fly out the window. The lake was covered in algae. It was really gross.

the dreaded test

The Intro to Info Tech test was much harder than I expected. I'm glad I did so much studying or I would have really bombed. As I'm talking to people I'm discovering I missed yet another question, so maybe I did bomb. I'm going to try to refocus now and start my HTML assignment.

Not much to say, well, not true, just too tired to get into the details. Saturday night Bud and I saw Margaret Cho at the Improv then went to dinner. The evening was very nice. The Improv makes a great Bloody Mary. Celebrated Father's Day by having a picnic at our house. Put the kids to bed and started studying some more. Figure I'll go to bed early tonight and try to catch up on some sleep. Then I remembered I had to blog. So here it is.....

Study group

I met with my study group this morning in preparation for Tuesday's midterm in Intro to Info Tech. What a help that was! I only wish we had had more time. Even though only three of us met, we had the hardest time finding a block of time that fit into each of our schedules. I can't believe how busy everyone is. I especially can't believe the semester is almost half over.

The longest day ever....

Yesterday had to be the longest day ever. I decided to take public transportation from the North Hills into Oakland and what a mistake. I spent three hours in travel time between the long bus routes and two transfers. Plus I missed my morning bus and had to wait 1 1/2 hours for the next one. I missed it because Ella wanted me to push her on the swings before I left for the day and I didn't have the heart to turn her down. The kids have been so accepting of all the changes to our schedule since I've started school.

When class let out at 8:45 I thought I'd have no trouble making the 9:25 from downtown but who knew I'd have to wait so long to catch the bus in Oakland. I had to run to get to my next stop....not a pretty sight, especially when I wasn't exactly sure where I needed to go. My biggest fear was missing that one because the next one wouldn't come until 10:40 pm. By the time I got home at 10:30, I was so exhausted and nauseous from the bus ride that I just about collapsed on the couch.

I'll be driving in from now on and just paying the $10 a day to park.

nearly duped

I can't believe I almost fell for a phishing scam. I got an email from my bank saying my account may have been accessed by a third party. The email was sent to my Pitt address so I thought that maybe it had something to do with my large tuition payment made online. The email provided a link to my bank's online banking site which I was asked to access to review my transactions and settings. The site looked 100% authentic - logo, links, address of home office, customer service number, etc. but I was still leary so I looked up my bank's real website and entered the online banking through that. I stopped at my bank and they verified it was a phishing scam that has targeted Pitt and UPMC among others. It is unreal how exact this fraudulent website is. But on closer examination I realized none of the hot links were hot, including the one to sign up for online banking. And the date and time were stagnant - a dead giveaway if I had been aware of it in the first place. This is my first time coming close to being scammed and it's scary how close I came to buying it. It's sad that people are so evil.....

ever hear of Creative Memories?

I attended my first Creative Memories party tonight. I am soooo not into scrapbooking but found myself intrigued by some of the stuff I saw. I also felt pangs of guilt when the other mothers pulled out pages upon pages of their scrapbooks that ever-so creatively displayed their favorite pictures of their little darlings, complete with picture mounts and ribbons and stickers and raised letters and catchy phrases and novella-length descriptors and.....ugh, all I kept thinking was maybe I would try to finish filling in the blanks of Ella's Baby's First Year book and give it to her when she turns three this August. The second child always gets slighted. Poor Ella. Mommy's doing her best.......

one more day...

Tomorrow is the last day of school at Alpha....yeah! It's been a great year, but a long year. I'm ready to focus on my own studies and start preparing for next year.

Not much else going on. The kids were pretty good today...not too many fights. Scooter brought a dead mole in the house and jumped up on the couch next to Ella with it. So gross. A few days ago he brought a dead bunny in and I didn't know it until Ella called to me in the kitchen saying, "Mommy, there's a dead animal in here." That's a stop-and-drop-everything moment. The worst part about it is that after I cleaned it up, I put it outside in a bag for Bud to dispose of later. When later came around the bag and bunny were gone and we have yet to find either. For as cute as Scooter is, he is twice as nasty. Moral of the story: keep the front door closed.

For those of you who commented on my Birthday post, that you for the nice birthday wishes. I appreciate the absence of "geezer" and "old fart" jokes! Does anyone know if you can reply to a comment? I searched through Help but didn't get anywhere. I guess this should be posted on the discussion board for class.

Too many toys

Spent all day yesterday dodging the raindrops and trying to clean up the yard that looked like we were running a daycare here. It's absolutely crazy how many toys we have......for just two kids! I feel like the toys are everywhere and no matter how many we get rid of, it's like they are multiplying. Last night Bud was in the kitchen and I was in the living room when I heard him let out a holler and drop to the floor. I contained my laughter just long enough to ask him what had happened and if he was okay. He said he had stepped on something and as he hobbled over to show me the object, he held up the purple plastic fangs that Wesley had won at Safari Sam's the day before. Now that I think of it, I should probably wash the fangs since they were embedded in Bud's bare foot. Yech....

Birthday fun

Today I turned 33 and spent a wonderful four hours climbing through the greasy, germ-infested tunnels of Safari Sams with my two kids. Wesley informed me this morning that he and Ella did not get me a gift but that Daddy was going to buy one after school today. I had to laugh because Bud told me some lame reason why he was going to be late getting home and I never even thought to question it. Turns out the kids got me two tickets to see Margaret Cho at The Improv and Bud got me a digital camera. It's great but I'll probably return it. He can't seem to grasp the concept that we HAVE NO MONEY!
